Overview of the Comet system Comet is a professional computing environment for business and web applications. Comet client software runs on Windows PCs. Comet server products run on Windows and Novell networks. Comet2004 Comet2004 provides runtime support for local and remote Comet applications. It includes character and GUI interfaces, and contains an Internet gateway for Winsock applications, a sort gateway, a fax driver gateway, HTML/text printers, Comet script files and advanced network administration tools. Comet2004 also includes the Database Explorer, View Manager, and Database Manager -- valuable tools that interface to Crystal Reports and Excel. Comet2004 programming features include Comet hyperlinks and a Windows programing API. CometLib and the CFAM file system give you the ability to interface to your Comet files from any language capable of attaching to a COM Server, such as Visual Basic. Comet2004 supports Windows XP and Windows 2003 Server. eComet Extensions (XAP) These extensions turn a Comet system into an Internet application server. eXtended Active Pages (XAP) is a patent-pending technology that offers advanced CGI capability. Comet ODBC Client Gateway The ODCB Client Gateway provides the power for Internet Basic applications to access databases that are compatible with the Open Database Connectivity (ODBC). standard. This includes Microsoft Access, SQL Server, and other ODBC data sources. Comet Serial Gateway The Serial Gateway provides the way for an Internet Basic program to communicate with an external serial device via the PC's serial port. This NetWare Loadable Module (NLM) speeds up system response for file system activities and turns Comet into a true client-server system. Comet Security Server 32 Comet Security Server 32 provides license validation for Signature's software products. Runs in the system tray or as a service (under WindowsNT, Windows2000, and WindowsXP).

Internet Basic Internet Basic is an application programming language designed for Comet systems. Using Internet Basic, you can create: character-based applications, for both local and remote users graphical applications (with Windows controls and dialogs), for both local and remote users web-based applications, for intranet and Internet users Internet protocol applications, such as SMTP e-mail Internet Basic Development Platform The Internet Basic Development Platform is a software toolkit for programmers who write applications for Comet systems. The Reporter The Reporter is report generation software for Comet systems. It is built around a simple scripting language and Comet's data dictionary scheme. Scripts are compiled into exectuable object programs so they will run as quickly as possible. Comet Utility Programs The Comet Utility Programs consist of a suite of system management and file maintenance utilities for the Comet environment.
