Overview
If you’re running a single-user Comet system, or running multiple Comet nodes in a Windows network, Comet Security Server 32 provides license validation for the following software products:
· Comet98
· Comet98 Point of Sale system
· Comet2000
· Comet2002
· Comet2003
· eComet Extensions (XAP)
· Comet ODBC Client Gateway
· Comet Serial Gateway
· CometAnywhere
· CometAnywhere2003
· CometServe32 File System
Comet Security Server 32 interfaces with a Comet security module that connects to the parallel port of the computer where the program is running. The hardware returns a unique serial number to Comet Security Server 32, and that serial number becomes part of a security algorithm that matches up with a digital certificate issued by Signature Systems. Thus, the above Comet software products are secured to specific hardware at a user’s site.
In a network setting, Comet Security Server 32 may be run on any Windows node in the network, not just on the file server. As a result, it’s possible to obtain license validation for your Comet software from a client node, while the Comet database services are obtained from your network file server. (Despite this flexibility, most Comet users choose to run Comet Security Server 32 on their Windows file server, alongside the CometServe32 File System).
Comet Security Server 32 provides a progress log showing all of login/logout events for the users and products being secured by the program. This log can be very helpful in observing user activity and diagnosing any connection problems that might occur in a network.
Note: Signature’s CometServeNLM
product includes a license validation program that is similar to Comet Security
Server32, but designed to run on a Novell Netware file server only.
